Updated Proposal Form (4/19/2010)

Project Title:
how do the difference insurfaces affect the adhesion of blu-tac?

Problem Question:
To investigate how the different types of surfaces of walls will affect the time that the blu-tac remains on it.

Hypothesis:
Rougher surfaces enable the blu-tac to remanin on thewall for a longer period of time

Web-Address (URL) of Project Blog
www.nuclearacid.blogspot.com

Apparatus and Materials Needed:
-3packs of blu-tac
-measuring tape
-weights (From Science Laboratory)
-Calander/Stopwatch
-Electronice Balance
-String (Yarn)

Surfaces
1) Window pane (function hall, smooth[glass])
2) Dormitory Cupboard (smooth[filed wood])
3) Exercise Corner at track (Wood[coarse])
4) Dormitory wall (cement[neutral])

Experimental Procedure Setup:
1) Take some blu-tac amd weogj ot pm am electronic balance
2) Measure it and make sure it is 1cm long on each side
3) Hang the weight onto the blu-tac with a 15cm string
4) Press the weight and blu-tac together
5) Push the blu-tac, with the weight hanging from the blu-tac on the string, against the wall for 5 seconds
6) Release pressure
7) Record the time it takes for the blu-tac to fall (hours and days)
8) Record findings in table

Independent Variable:
The different types of surfaces

Dependent Variable:
The time taken for the blu-tac to fall off the different surfaces

Controlled Variable:
-height of blu-tac on the wall
-orientation of blu-tac on wall
-weight of the load
-length of the string
-length of the blu-tac
-weight of the blu-tac
-width of the blu-tac

  1. hey guys..
-Ms.Phua says that we should hang the weight from the blu-tac instead of sticking it onto it.. So so far i put the load is hanging from the blu-tac by a 15cm string of yarn

-Ms.Phua said that it is called a electronic balance not a electronic weighing scale

-also we are recording it in time.. so im guessing hours and days?

-we still have to confirm the weight of the load which will affect the time of how long the blu-tac will stay on. So the heavier the weight the less time the blu-tac it stays on for.

-Ms.Phua said that the dependent variable was the time taken for the blu-tac to fall off the different surfaces. Because we got that question wrong again.

-She said instead of the position of blu-tac, it is the orientation of the blu-tac

-Ms.Phua recommended that we draw a diagram to show how the load will be hanged from the blu-tac

I think that we need about 30minutes to 1hr to confirm everything.. so yeah

  2. er so will we be hanging it with a string in mid air or....something else
