Proposal Form

Project Title:
How do the difference in surfaces affect the adhesion of blu-tac?

Problem Question:
To investigate how the different types of surfaces of walls will affect the period of time that the blu-tac remains on it.

Hypothesis:
Rougher surfaces enable the blu-tac to remain on the wall for a longer period of time.

Apparatus and Materials Needed:
-3 packs of blu-tac
-measuring tape
-weights (from science laboratory)
-Calender/stopwatch
-electronic weighing machine

Experimental Procedure Setup:
1) Take some blu-tac and weigh it on an electronic weighing scale
2) Measure it and make sure the blu-tac weighs 5 grams and 1cm(width) by 1cm(length)
3) Stick the 1.5kg weight on the blu-tac
4) Let of the 1.5kg weight
5) Measure how long the blu-tac stays on
6) Measure how fast the blu-tac with the 1.5kg weight falls
7)

Independent Variable:
-the 4 different surfaces

Dependent Variable:
-the blu-tac

Controlled Variables (Constants):
-weight of the blu-tac
-size of blu-tac
-posititon of the blu-tac on the surface
